Sunscreen is something I skipped on for a large part of my life. Especially facial sunscreen. Like several other things in life, I didn’t understand the importance of facial sunscreen until I noticed some skin issues pop up a few years ago. Specifically, extreme redness and irritation. Ever since then, I made sunscreen a priority in my day to day skincare routine! I’m sharing 4 of my favorite facial sunscreen recommendations below!

Sunscreen protects our skin from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays. In a nutshell, sunscreen protects our skin by reducing the risk of skin cancer, keeps complexion even, and helps our skin look young. Overexposure to sunlight can lead to an increase of fine line and wrinkles.
Something important to keep in mind is sunscreen should be used even when there is no direct sunlight and the weather is cloudy. Clouds do block sunlight but they don’t block all the UV rays that can damage our skin. As for what SPF, an esthetician I spoke to recommended to use minimum SPF30.
There’s no doubt that there are tons of amazing facial sunscreens out there but these four are the ones I had a great experience with. Also, please keep in mind that I am not a dermatologist or licensed esthetician. Anything I recommend or speak of is based on my personal experience and research! Descriptions and photos of each product are from the brand’s website linked.
4 Best Facial Sunscreen Recommendations
Elta MD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF46 – $36
“UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 by EltaMD provides protection to your complexion to shield your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays. Fragrance-free, this face sunscreen’s smooth formula includes sodium hyaluronate to moisturize while lactic acid refines the skin to clear pores and reduce shine.“
I’ll probably sound repetitive when I talk about each sunscreen because I love them all for similar reasons! Elta MD’s sunscreen is non-greasy and feels so lightweight and comfortable on my skin! It’s great for all skin types and for those who have rosacea. It’s free of sulfates, phthalate, parabens, oils, and fragrance. Also, they’re cruelty free, non comedogenic, and dermatologist approved! I also like their other versions: UV Physical Broad Spectrum Tinted SPF 41 and UV Elements Tinted Broad Spectrum SPF 44.
Shiseido Ultimate Sun Protector Lotion SPF 50+ – $49
“An invisible sunscreen veil that becomes stronger when exposed to heat, water, and sweat. HeatForce technology is activated on hot days once applied to your skin. For WetForce capabilities to engage, expose the area where lotion has been applied to water or perspiration for 30 minutes. This formula is water-resistant for up to 80 minutes, ocean-friendly, and free of oxybenzone and octinoxate.”
This is the first of the four I mention in this post that I fell in love with it. I especially love this one for when I wear makeup. I find my makeup sits well on top of it, especially since it is a lightweight formula! Also, it’s non greasy and doesn’t leave a white cast like some sunscreens do. This Shiseido sunscreen is free of phthalates, oxybenzone, and hydroquinone.
Kinship Zinc Oxide Mineral Sunscreen SPF 32 – $25
The below images with descriptions of the Kinship Sunscreen are from Kinship’s website here.
This sunscreen is cruelty free, vegan, and formulated with clean ingredients. I like this because like the others, it’s non greasy. This sunscreen also leaves my skin feeling moisturized.
Papa Recipe Sun Essence SPF 50+ – $21
“Applying and reapplying sunscreen doesn’t have to feel like a chore. This sun essence has a lightweight, fast-absorbing formula that glides on easily and doesn’t leave behind a greasy film or white residue. Ingredients like honey, propolis and royal jelly extract nourish skin, while SPF 50+ PA+++ provides broad spectrum protection for both UVA and UVB rays. Violet Flower Complex and Red Flower Complex promote a healthy skin barrier while moisturizing and soothing skin. A perfect final step in your skin care routine! This formula is suitable for all skin types. It is cruelty-free, and formulated without artificial fragrance, artificial color, parabens, and mineral oil.”
I’m a HUGE fan of K-Beauty and have been since my teen years! K Beauty works VERY well with my skin so I often look to add more K Beauty to my skincare routine. That being said, I am OBSESSED with this sun essence because it allows me to mesh two skincare steps into one! I can be very lazy so if you tell me I can get my essence and sunscreen in one step, I’m all for it! This sun essence is very lightweight and moisturizes the skin.
