December 2014 Birchbox Review

I got myBirchbox super early this month but didn’t get a chance to write up a review since I had finals – which are done now so YAY! First semester of grad school is officially over!

For those who don’t know, Birchbox is a monthly beauty sampling subscription service that costs $10/month!

Birchbox is one of my favorite subscription services because I find myself actually using and loving everything (or almost everything) I receive! I’ve discovered many new brands from this sub!

Another reason I love Birchbox is their INCREDIBLE point system! For every item in your box you review, you receive 10 Birchbox points, which is equal to $1 in the Birchbox store. These points add up since you can get $5 or more worth of store credit each month!

image

This month’s theme is “Decked Out” and every review I read so far gave such great feedback on the box and I am totally on the same page as them! The box this month is GORGEOUS! It’s probably my favorite box of theirs ever!

image

If you read my past Birchbox reviews you probably know they totally rocked and set my expectations super high, so I wasn’t surprised when I was a little let down with this month’s products.

Each box comes with a detailed card listing the products included:

image

The first thing I saw in my box this month was a $10 gift card to Gap! I don’t shop there so I’ll be passing it along to someone else but I think it’s neat that every subscriber got it!

So let’s get onto the products:

image

Davines Replumping Superactive – 1.69 oz $19.75

Davines Replumping Duo Shampoo & Conditioner – Bonus Items!

Holy moly! I took a double take when I realized I got half of the full sized replumping superactive! It’s pretty much worth the cost of two Birchbox’s! I wasn’t super excited for the product when I looked at my sneak peek online but I’ve seen so many great reviews in the past couple of weeks which got me hyped up for it! This product is supposed leave hair looking thick and shiny – I’m excited for the shiny part but my hair is already so thick, I’m hoping it doesn’t add too much volume! Birchbox sent everyone who got this product a sample duo of the shampoo and conditioner as well! I think that’s pretty neat since I could try the whole set now and get an idea of how awesome the duo might or might now be!

imageMirenesse iCurl Secret Weapon 24Hr Mascara – .14 oz – $1.42

English Laundry Signature for Her – 2mL $2.78

Manna Kadar Lip Locked Priming Gloss Stain in Lucky – .01 oz $0.20

SeaRX Microdermabrasion Face and Body Scrub ??

I could not find an amount for the scrub and looking through other reviews – it seemed like everyone had a difference price amount written – anywhere from $2-$5.

Anywho – the first item in this photo is the mascara and I feel like I say this often but I don’t use mascaras! No worries though, I’ll be adding this to my cousin’s stocking next week! And another perfume sample!? I don’t like the scent of this so it will probably go to the trash unless I find someone to send it to! I wish there was a way to opt out of perfume samples but sadly, I can’t.

The Manna Kadar was the sample choice I picked! I wanted to see why each gloss stain was $24 and honestly – I was not impressed. I tried it and the color wasn’t for me but I also didn’t like the feeling of it and it didn’t last too long on my lips. I definitely prefer Cynthia Rowley Lip Stains and they’re $4 cheaper! My cousin wants to try this so I’ll be giving her the rest of the sample – which is super tiny by the way! I’ve never seen a lippie sample so tiny before!

I was excited to see the scrub in my box because I was just telling one of my blogger friends about how I wanted to try a micro-dermabrasion scrub and viola – I got a sample of one in my Birchbox!

Overall – the value of this box is a little over $25, without the price of the scrub, so not bad! I’m not super impressed with the contents though – they’re not bad but this box isn’t my favorite considering my past 3 boxes were beyond amazing! I’m glad I’ll be able to give most of the items I don’t like to my cousin so they won’t go to waste!

I think what I’m most excited about is the actual box for this month – I can’t get over how pretty it is!

Also – I was able to rack up 70 points in the Birchbox store for reviewing all of the products – that’s $7 in store credit! It’s almost as if I paid $3 for this box so I that was another plus!

If you’d like to sign up for Birchbox, you can so here!

November 2014 Birchbox Review

For those who don’t know, Birchbox is a monthly beauty sampling subscription service that costs $10/month!

Birchbox is one of my favorite subscription services because I find myself actually using and loving everything (or almost everything) I receive! I’ve discovered many new brands from this sub!

The past 2 months were so amazing for me that I knew it would be super difficult to please me 3 months in a row but I was pleasantly surprised at how I got another amazing box!

image

The cool thing about this month was that Birchbox will donate $1 for every photo of the red box shared on social media with the hashtag #shaRED!image

I also found it neat how each Birchbox came with a holiday gift guide!

image

Like every month, each box comes with a card detailing the items sent to you!

image

I love how they added a bonus item in everyone’s box this month!

image

Royal Apothic Cuppa Cuppa Firming Tea Treatment Mask – .33 oz $9.67

Amika Nourishing Mask – .7 oz $4.00

I was surprised to get both of these items in my box since they were both sample choices! I didn’t choose a sample choice for November so I was pleased to get both of these products! Both are completely new to me and I’ve heard amazing reviews for both so I’m definitely ecstatic to try them out!

imageDang Toasted Coconut Chips – Bonus Item!

Gilchrist & Soames Spa Therapy Body Lotion – 1.35 oz $2.53

I’m iffy about these coconut chips but I will give them a try since I’ve heard many people say they were super delicious! I’m not always happy about seeing body lotions in my box but now I’m actually loving receiving lotion samples since the weather is making my skin super dry! This lotion smells great and it’s really hydrating, I might just buy a full sized one from the Birchbox store!

image
TheBalm Cindy-Lou Manizer – .02 oz $1.60

Cynthia Rowley Beauty Creamy Lip Stain – Heartthrob – .079 oz $9.29

I’ve heard so many people wanting a sample of this Cindy-Lou Manizer! I’m positive it’s a great product but I knew I wasn’t going to use it so I sent it over to a friend who wanted to try it out! I was really excited about this Cynthia Rowley Lip Stain since I tried out a different color a couple weeks ago! I find their lip stains to be long lasting and highly pigmented so I was glad I got to sample this color! It’s perfect for the fall! I’m waiting for the right moment to splurge on more colors in the Birchbox shop!

I’m definitely pleased with this month’s Birchbox! I got to sample 2 of the sample choices that I was interested in trying and I love all the products Birchbox chose for me!

ChapStick® Dual-Ended Hydration Lock Day & Night Review

Birchbox sent out an email on September 10th with the offer to try out and review this Hydration Lock Lip Balm, all we had to do was tweet them which Chapstick we wanted to try and why!

I believe they chose 100 people and I had no idea I was being sent these two lip balms until the Fedex delivery man showed up at my doorstep! I was super excited since I didn’t receive either of these lip balms in my September Box! I also thought we would only be sent one, not both!

image

These dual ended Chapsticks cost $2.99 in the Birchbox store! At first I thought these Chapsticks would have less product than the regular ones but I was wrong! There isn’t a huge difference but regular Chapsticks have .15 oz of product while these dual ended Chapsticks have .154 oz!

The “Day” side has SPF 12 while the “Night” contains tamanu oil and natural butters. Also, these new Chapsticks have a clinically proven formula for healthier looking lips!

I found this Chapstick to be super moisturizing compared to other lip balms I used! I’m more of a fan of the “Night” end because it’s more moisturizing with the oils/butters it has! I’ve noticed a positive change in my lips and I’m sure you will too!

What are your thoughts on these Hydration Lock Dual Ended Chapsticks?

I received this item in exchange for my honest, unbiased opinion. All opinions expressed are my own and I would not promote an item if I did not think it would spark interest to my readers.

Each box comes with a card detailing which products Birchbox chose for you!

As usual, I peeked on the Birchbox app to see what I would be receiving. I tried so hard not to but I couldn’t help myself!

image

Suki Exfoliate Foaming Cleanser – .2 oz – $1.65

I heard great things about this product so I’m crazy excited to try this Suki Cleanser! I’m always in search of exfoliators to try and this Suki cleanser is made up of all natural ingredients, including lemongrass and chamomile, which is perfect for me! It also smells really great!

Yu-Be Moisturizing Skin Cream- .1 oz – $1.28

I feel like I’ve used this brand before but I can’t remember when or which product I used! The fact that Yu-Be has been Japan’s top selling skin cream since the 1950’s really caught my attention! Sometimes my skin gets super dry to the point that my moisturizers don’t help! I’m intrigued to see how this one works!

image

Pixi Shea Butter Lip Balm in Honey Nectar – FULL SIZE! – $8.00

I heard great things about this Pixi Lip Balm and was hoping I’d get a color I would be able to use often and I did!! I’m so glad Birchbox sent me this lip balm in a nude color rather than something bright! I’ll be able to use this every day! In fact, I already began to use it and love how it feels! I’ll most likely be purchasing more of these with my Birchbox Points!

Curl Keeper Gel – 1 oz – $2.19

I love seeing hair products for curls in my Birchbox because I’m still looking for a product that works with my thick curly/wavy hair. I can’t wait to try this out and see how it works!

Dr. Brandt Pores No More Vacuum Cleaner – .25 oz – $11.25

Another product I’ve heard nothing but great things about! Again, I was super happy to see this product in my Birchbox! I’ve always wanted to try this product out and see how well it gets rid of my blackheads! I also think it’s pretty neat how the gel turns blue once it’s dry!

September’s Birchbox is my all time favorite! I can’t even begin to describe how much I love all the products I got! I paid $10 for this box and the value of the products was around $24! I’ll also be receiving $5 in store credit for reviewing all of the products!

If you’re interested in receiving a box full of amazing samples every month for a low price I highly recommend subscribing to Birchbox

I tried so hard not to peek online but I failed..again so I knew what I was receiving!

image

image

LAQA & Co. Sheer Lip Lube Pencil – Bees Knees (Coral) FULL SIZE!! $18

I had no idea this would come in a full size! I love the color but it’s too light for my liking. I’ll most likely give this product away!

I noticed their set of 5 Sheer Lip Lube Pencils are $40 on the Birchbox site and I’m super tempted to buy it for the other colors!

image

Whish Shave Crave Shaving Cream – Acai Grapefruit – 22 mL $2.93

I’ve never used shaving cream before, I usually wax myself but on lazy days when I do shave, I use conditioner. I’ll definitely put this to use because I’ve been super lazy with waxing lately lol!

image

Catherine Malandrino Style de Paris Fragrance

This sample doesn’t say how much fragrance is in the container so I can’t estimate a price. However, I am not a fan of this scent. I’ll definitely not be using it but I’m sure my mom will find it to her liking!

image

K6 Skincare Clean Antioxidant Facial Cleanser – .25 FL OZ $1.50

This cleanser is vegan and paraban-free! It’s supposed to nourish your skin while cleaning it and it’s great for all skin types! I’m definitely excited to try this product out!

image

image

Noir Cosmetics Long – Wear Eyeliner – Full Size!! (I think lol!) $15

This was the product I was super duper excited for! I am a huge eyeliner junkie! I love love love trying new eyeliners! I’m already a huge fan of this one! It’s so smooth and super dark! I’m definitely putting it to the test on my first day of school, which is tomorrow!

This month’s Birchbox was great! I’m in love with 3/5 items I received and the other two will be given away. I paid $10 for this Birchbox and received around $37 worth of products and once I review all 5 items on the Birchbox website, I’ll receive $5 store credit!
