Tarte Rainforest After Dark Colored Clay Eye and Cheek Palette Review

I’ve had my eye on Tarte’s Rainforest After Dark Eyeshadow Palette for a while now and picked it up at Ulta when they were offering the “Make Today Beautiful” mug as a gift with purchase! Unfortunately 2 of the Ulta’s near me ran out and the third never received any – oh well! Read on below for more information on this palette , swatches, and my thoughts!

This palette costs $40 and contains 6 shadows with a mix of matte and shimmer finishes, 1 highlighter, 1 bronzer, and 1 blush. You can purchase this palette directly from Tarte , Sephora, or Ulta! I personally would recommend purchasing it from Ulta since their rewards system is pretty darn amazing! If not Ulta, I would say Sephora, especially if you’re a Beauty Insider, VIB, or VIB Rouge since all purchases will be 2x, 3x, or 4x points depending on your status through 9/17/2016!

Here is what the inside of the palette looks like:

Each shadow contains 1 gram of product, highlighter and bronzer contain 4 grams of product each, and the blush contains 6 grams of product. Moreover, this palette is formulated without parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, gluten, and sodium lauryl sulfates.
Let’s see some swatches!
Just as a note, these swatches are done with Smashbox’s Photo Finish Shadow Primer and each shade is swatched twice – the top swatch is done with my finger and bottom swatch is done with a packing brush – for these swatches I used a brush from Coastal Scents – there’s no name or number on the brush.
Top to bottom: Bare to Explore, Make a Mauve, Plum Away With Me

All three of these shadows are super creamy and blendable – I haven’t had an issue with any of the shades so far!

Top to bottom: Up To No Gold, Tan-gled Up In You, and Don’t Turn A Brown

Tan-gled Up In You is a shadow I had absolutely no issues with from these three shades. Up To No Gold is one of my favorites but it will take a bit of layering to get intense pigment – nothing I haven’t had to do before! Don’t Turn A Brown, however, is the only shade in this palette I had to work with. It’s patchy and doesn’t blend easily. It’s not completely horrible, I’ve seen worse in high end palettes but it’s not the best shadow from Tarte.
Top to bottom: Champagne, Park Ave Princess, Unleashed

I don’t have any complaints with the face products in this palette. I do wish I used the highlight more – it’s stunning and doesn’t contain an immense amount of shimmer, making it perfect to use daily! I don’t use the bronzer often either but that’s because I don’t incorporate it into my daily makeup routine. The blush is a gorgeous shade as well and the selling point for me as opposed to the Showstopper Palette – the blush in that looks a bit too light for me.

This is my 6th palette from Tarte and I have yet to be disappointed. The formula of their shadows is one of my favorites! I definitely have zero regrets purchasing this palette because the face products are spot on as are all the shadows besides Don’t Turn A Brown. Also, this palette is perfect for traveling – it includes a highlight and blush I would use plus mauves, purples, and browns are my favorite shades of shadows! This might be my 6th palette from Tarte and I have not been disappointed yet! The formula of their shadows is one of my favorites!
Like I mentioned above, this palette is available at Tarte , Sephora, and Ulta! I would recommend purchasing from Ulta, if not Sephora to get the most out of your haul.
Hope you all have a great rest of your weekend!

Jaclyn Hill Ride or Die Makeup Tag

After reading/watching a lot of beauties do the Jaclyn Hill Ride or Die Makeup Tag, I couldn’t resist to do it myself! Choosing one specific product for each category seems tough since I love changing shades up and trying new brands. Nevertheless, I am going not going to think super hard about these and just go with my gut!

I’m going in the same order as my beauty blogger pal over at Beauty Products Are My Cardio!
Primer: Nivea Post Shave Balm – Sensitive version. This is assuming we’re talking about the longevity of makeup – primers for radiance, etc are another story that I won’t get into! I’ve tried numerous primers over the years and have rarely been impressed by their effects. I find that the Nivea one prolongs my makeup just as well and even better than all the primers I’ve tried.
Foundation: This one is SO tough because I love my Urban Decay Naked Skin Perfector and Makeup For Ever Ultra HD Liquid Foundation equally but I’ll say MUFE since the UD – according to their website – is a cream, not foundation. MUFE’s Ultra HD Foundation is great because it provides a natural finish and is also buildable for full coverage.
Concealer: Urban Decay’s Naked Concealer is my favorite formula – it’s not drying and doesn’t crease like other concealers tend to do. However, I’ve seen tons of hype on the new Tarte concealer so I might pick that up just to compare!

Corrector: LA Girls hands down. They’re so affordable and work just as well as any of the other drugstore and high end correctors I’ve used. Moreover, the formula blends so easily and I love the brush tip – it makes applying it quicker and precise! I also think they’re perfect for my olive/warm skin tone..I feel that there are a few brands out there that don’t make shades friendly for us tanner/deeper tones.

Face Powder: RCMA No Color Powder for sure! All I want in a face powder is to set my makeup without a cakey result and this does exactly that! Plus, it’s super affordable and works better than some of the high end ones I’ve tried.

Under Eye Setting Powder: I use my RCMA Powder for under eye setting as well. I don’t think I’ve ever bought another powder just to set my under eyes..but that’s because I rarely use concealer there!

Bronzer: I legit never bronze but in the off chance that I do, I pull one out of my mom’s Mac collection!

Highlight: This one is SO hard but I have to say Becca’s Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal. Becca makes my favorite highlight formula – you can’t go wrong with them!

Mascara: I rarely wear mascara but when I do it’s Urban Decay’s Perversion – it gives the perfect length and volume to my lashes!

Lipstick: At this moment I’d say it’s Bare Minerals Gen Nude Matte Liquid Lipstick in BO$$. I’ve been waiting for a nude liquid matte lip collection to come out that would suit my skintone for the LONGEST time. I feel like Bare Minerals hit the spot because I am obsessed with not only BO$$, but also a few other shades like Friendship and Juju! Besides the shade, I love this lipstick because it’s a mousy formula that dries down completely matte! It does take time to dry down completely but the end result is worth it!

Lip Gloss: Pretty much any shade by Buxom – I love the minty sensation they leave on my lips!

Lashes: I have never worn falsies L

Eye Shadow Palette: Right now it’s Tarte’s Swamp Queen Palette! It’s PERFECTION! Everything from the shades to the formula to the packaging – I love it!

Setting Spray: I wouldn’t say it’s my ride or die but I’ve only been using the NYX Setting Spray. The other ones I’ve tried don’t make much of a difference but at the same time, NYX’s doesn’t impress me either. I’m still searching for a holy grail!

Perfume: Gucci Guilty! 1. Because it smells amazing and 2. Have you seen the commercial? YAS CHRIS EVANS

Blush: Nars Blush in Dolce Vita – it’s the first blush I ever bought and my favorite to this day!
Well there ya have it! Do we have any of the same ride or die products? Link me if you did this on your blog/youtube channel, I’d love to check it out!

Becca Cosmetics x Jaclyn Hill Champagne Collection Eye Palette Review, Swatches, and Updates

As a gal who adores Jaclyn Hill – as a beauty guru and as a person – I could NOT wait for the Champagne Collection to come out! The products looked amazing and I knew I had to get  my hands on what I thought I could make the most of. Below I will be reviewing the Eye Palette which, unfortunately, has been pulled from the collection. I’ll be giving my thoughts on that as well since..well..because I can.

Photo from Becca’s Instagram

The photo above displays the 4 new products included in the new Champagne Collection created by Becca’s collaboration with Jaclyn Hill. The hype was real and it was insane from my eyes, and rightfully so! Jaclyn Hill is one of my favorite beauty gurus and aside from her mad makeup skills and knowledge, I love how she’s true to herself and follows her own morals and beliefs till the end of the line.

Anywho – this collection is an addition to Champagne Pop and includes the following products:
If I was able to, I would have bought the entire collection in a heartbeat, instead I wanted to splurge on one of the items and it was between the face and eye palettes. I think the face palette is beyond beautiful but I chose to go with the eye palette because I knew I would get more use out of it. Truth be told, I was unsure of whether or not the blushes would suit my skin. I definitely will be checking it out in stores and most likely will be purchasing it then!
Here is a quick shot of the eye palette – I am IN LOVE with the packaging! It screams Jaclyn’s style and looks stunning with the white and gold confetti design! The eye palette includes 5 shades (1.7 grams/pan) and the second one from the left, Champagne Toast, is Jaclyn’s baby.
These are some swatches I took and posted on Instagram as soon as I got the palette. This is the first ever Becca product I purchased and honestly, I was slightly bummed when I began to play around with it. I had heard nothing but amazing things about Becca and this palette was continuously described as “super buttery and pigmented”.
However, my initial reaction was that it felt like a standard eyeshadow formula I would expect for the price point, nothing insanely amazing. The pigmentation wasn’t lacking at all – but the formula was not super buttery like I had expected. That being said, I pushed this feeling off thinking I had really high expectations, therefore overthought the formula.
If you haven’t heard already – here’s what went down recently.
  • Jaclyn Hill has been receiving comments/concerns about the formula of the eyeshadows and how they were not as described – instead of being buttery and pigmented, some palettes had chalky eyeshadows – not something that is up to par with Becca’s previous eyeshadows.
  • Jaclyn and Becca both discussed this issue and have decided to take the palette out of the Champagne collection – this means the eye palette will not be available to purchase anymore.
  • If any consumers are unhappy with the quality of the palette, Sephora will refund your money!
  • Why do some of the palettes have poor quality? Supposedly, Becca Cosmetics utilized a different lab to create this particular palette, which in turn lead to this issue. There are some articles such as this that speculate the ingredients used in this palette are similar to those used in a drugstore brand.
I really don’t know if all the palettes were manufactured in the lab that created the subpar quality shadows or if it was split between multiple labs but it does seem like many people did receive a great quality palette while others did not.
Even though this lab issue arose, I’m not totally surprised some folks were not happy with the quality since I have purchased high end palettes that seemed to come from a “bad batch”.
Ultimately, I appreciate Jaclyn owning up to this issue the way she did along with Becca. Nothing is ever perfect, mistakes happen, that’s just how life rolls. As for whether or not I’ll be returning the palette – I will be keeping it! I know the formula wasn’t super amazing in my eyes but they do feel like a high end quality I’ve experienced from other brands. I also think it’s perfect for travel since it has shades I can create day and night looks with. Also, I love small palettes and the fact that this one has shades I can use for work everyday without the hassle of going into a larger palette each morning is just heavenly! HOWEVER, I may end up returning it depending on whether or not there’s a big difference in formulation with the other Becca Eye Palettes. I’ll be heading to Sephora when I can to test them out. Hopefully, it isn’t a huge difference!

So what I was thinking would not be a huge difference in formulation ended up being a drastic different 🙁 The other Becca Eyeshadow palettes are so much more buttery than the one I have. I’m convinced I got a bad batch which really upsets me because this palette would have been a great addition to my beauty arsenal. However, after testing the other palettes out, it just doesn’t seem right to keep this now knowing what true Becca shadows are like. I have returned this palette but I may pick up the original Champagne Pop highlighter at some point since I still haven’t done so. I love Jaclyn Hill to bits but I’m not sure I’d use the face palette but who knows, if it’s still in stock the next time I go to Sephora, I may end up getting it.

Well there you have it! What are your thoughts on the Champagne Collection? If you don’t have everything you want from this collection already, will you be heading to Sephora June 16th to grab any goodies?

ColourPop Lippie Stix Review and Swatches

Happy Saturday beauties!

I swatched my ColourPop Lippie Stix collection last night on Instagram and wanted to share more of my thoughts with you here.

ColourPop Cosmetics is a brand that was created in Los Angeles and they’ve grown so large in a short amount of time it seems like! They currently make lip products, eyeliners, blushes, bronzers, and highlighters. This post will focus on ColourPop’s  Lippie Stix. If you’re curious about any of their other products – let me know and I’d be happy to share my thoughts!

Louis Vuitton Holder from Vanity Flair Customs

ColourPop Lippie Stix are $5 a piece and they currently ship to the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Guam, and APO’s. The lippie stix come in various finishes but most of mine are matte. Fun fact: each lippie stix has a matching lippie pencil, which is also $5!

Let’s get onto my swatches:

All five of these are matte finishes and the first one, Trust Me, is their newest shade and formula – matte x! The regular mattes are super creamy, except for LBB – that one is a tiny bit more rough, but not in any insane amount of way. I find that the matte x formula looks a bit more matte than the regular matte finishes and the texture it totally different, almost like a powder feeling and it glides so smoothly.
These 5 are definitely some of my favorites of my collection – I just have a soft spot for reds/burgundys/etc!

Trixie and Too Sexy are satin finish while the remaining three in the above photo are mattes! I Heart This and Out of Sync seem super similar but I find that the top is more of a pink/magenta tone while the bottom has more of a red tone. The next two, Toucan an Trixie are similar too each other as well, I feel like Trixie is a bit brighter than Toucan.
These five are the ones I’m doing some experimenting with since they’re all colors I typically wouldn’t wear.

All five of these are matte finishes and Lumiere and Taurus are part of ColourPop’s collab with Kathleen Lights and Ellarie is, well…Ellarie’s collab with ColourPop! Baewatch is the shade I was hooked on for a good month or so – I used it on a daily – no joke! It is the perfect nude-ish pink on me.

15 ColourPop Lippie Stix may seem excessive to many and a small collection to a few (I’m with the folks on the latter side) but either way, there are still quite a few shades I want to pick up from them!

Let’s talk about some pros and cons before I let you all go!

  • Super affordable – at $5 a piece, I can get four to six shades compared to one at Sephora so I appreciate the price point, especially since I can experiment with colors I’m not too confident with without going bankrupt!
  • Wide variety of shades/finishes – They have everything from matte, satin, sheer, satin luxe, glossy, and pearlized finishes! They also have numerous shades from super vampy to beautiful nudes!
  • They come out with new products/shades often! I’m not kidding, I feel like new collections come out left and right – it’s hard to keep up sometimes (no complaints here tho)!

  • Some shades bleed – mainly the darker ones but that’s nothing a lip liner can fix
  • Website photos don’t match what they look like in real life. I know I’m not the only one who feels this way and I know a lot of ColourPop products have swatches on different skin tones – which I highly appreciate – but not all of them do. So I highly recommend looking for swatches online before buying any of their products.
  • According to Temptalia, these lippie stix have 0.0352 ounces of product while an average lipstick tube has 0.10-0.20 ounces. I know this poses as an issue for some people because you’re technically you would have to buy 3-4 of these to add up to a an average lipstick BUT like Christine mentions in her post, the product size is similar to Bite Beauty’s Lip Crayons and Tarte’s Power Pigments so if you compare it to those, ColourPop lippie stix are definitely more affordable. NEVERTHELESS, the whole “product per ounce” issue doesn’t bother me a bit because I rarely go through a whole lipstick.

I’m not sure this is a con – just an observance. I know a couple of ladies who’ve experienced this as well – but nearly half the boxes my lippie stix/eyeliner/ultra mattes come in in end up completely open when I go to open my package. Luckily, ColourPop packs everything well so none of my products have broke thus far *knock on wood* but I just find it interesting (and annoying at times) that this has occurred so often. I’ve experienced it once or twice with other brands but never as frequently as this.

Anywho, despite the cons and my little vent above, I really adore ColourPop Lippie Stix and I’ll definitely be purchasing more in the near future! I love that they’re so affordable and the numerous diverse shades they create!

What are your thoughts on ColourPop Lippie Stix? Do you have any favorites or any you can recommend to me? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

8 Beauty Products That Did Not Work For Me

Happy Saturday beauties! I was organizing my makeup stash recently and was inspired to write about products that didn’t work for me as I hoped they would. Some of these products may surprise you as they’re loved by many and some probably won’t shock you at all.

The won’t be listed in any particular order so let’s get right to it!

Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Palette

Let’s get this one out of the way. I’ve seen so many people rave about this but I found that some of these shadows (of course the ones I was interested in) lack pigmentation and the ones that worked fine were the shades similar to those in my other palettes. I just don’t think this palette is worth spending $49 with my experience with it. I found it astounding that my Profusion Runway Glamour palettes have better formulation and those are only $2.99 each!

I do have the original Chocolate Bar and LOVE it but I am super disappointed with this one. Apart from the packaging, there’s nothing else that makes me want to keep it. At the same time, however, part of me thinks I might have gotten a bad batch. Needless to say, I will be returning this one.

Make Up Forever 50 Shades of Grey Cheeky Blush Trio

If you saw my MUFE 50 Shades Collections Review you probably know how disappointed I was with this palette. They swatched beautifully but applying them was impossible unless I used my fingers. I could run a brush through this palette for hours and still the bristles wouldn’t pick up any products.

I know not all MUFE shadows and blushes are like the ones in this palette because everything else I have tried from them has been a hit!

Maybelline Fit Me Dewy + Smooth Foundation
I’ve been trying to find a drugstore foundation (no luck as of yet) and thought of trying the Fit Me but I was not a fan. It applied great and looks fantastic on my skin but it broke me out really bad. If you know of a great drugstore foundation, please let me know in the comments below!

Bare Minerals Ready Luminizer
This..just no. It lacks pigmentation and shows up super patchy and splotchy on the skin, I am not a fan at all. I used to be a huge fan of Bare Minerals in the past but now I rarely use products from them. Let me know if you have any favorites from Bare Minerals!
ColourPop Ultra Matte in Bumble
I love many of ColourPop’s Ultra Mattes but some of them, like Bumble, have a horrible formula. The shade is beautiful but it applies patchy and feels like goop on the skin. It doesn’t dry down as well as the others and parts of start to peel off within an hour of application.
Don’t let this one negative experience get to you though, I have dozens of other ColourPop products that I absolutely LOVE! If you follow me on Instagram, you probably have seen all the ColourPop craziness I’ve been posting! In fact, I have 2 more hauls from them coming soon!

Sephora Luster Matte Long Wear Lip Color in Deep Plum Luster
Another beautiful shade and another formula that applies patchy. I have other shades that apply fine but this one is another story. It takes patchiness to a whole new level.

Too Faced Rock N Roll Palette
Let me just say, thank God I got this in their Cyber Monday Mystery Bag rather than paying full price for it! The darker shadows don’t apply like the colors you see in the palette, they turn into this dark smokey grey color, which is a shame because I really love Punk and Heavy Metal.
Crown Brush Eyeshadow Trios in Bora Bora and Barbados
I don’t recommend these palettes at all. The shimmery shades are okay but the mattes are just horrible. I’m sure you can get similar shades with a much better formula with brands like Makeup Revolution, Morphe, Profusion, and more! I haven’t tried their larger palettes so I can’t speak to those but these trios were a huge miss for me.

Did any of my misses surprise you? I totally tried to work with each of these products but they just did not seem to cooperate with me. I’ll definitely give most of these another shot in the future since I refuse throw them out.

What are your thoughts on these products? Do you have any products that were a complete miss? Let me know in the comments below!

Vanity Flair Customs Brush Holders

Happy New Year beauties! For my first post of 2016, I’ll be talking about a new, woman owned, independent business! Kirsten’s business is called Vanity Flair Customs and she creates and sells custom brush holders.

These holders cost anywhere from $20.75 to $25.75 (prices subject to change) depending on the design you want. Shipping within the US is $6.50 for one holder and $8.50 for two – shipping inquiries can be made if you want more than two holders (shipping rates are also subject to change). Vanity Flair Customs does ship worldwide but you would have to send a message to get a shipping estimate first.

Now that we got the pricing/shipping info out there, let’s talk about the size of these bad boys! The neat thing about Vanity Flair Customs‘ holders are that they store more than your average holders. I’ll have individual pictures of each holder I own below, but just to put into context, I can store up to 25 makeup brushes in each holder! That’s almost much double compared to what I was able to hold in my past brush holders/mugs. Also, apart from storing brushes, these are perfect to store lippies, eyeliners, and eyeshadow singles.
Let’s get onto the four holders I have!

I can’t get over how beautiful this brown/bronze glitter looks with the LV decal. I use this one to store my ColourPop Lippie Stix,  Lippie Pencils, and Ultra Matte Lips!

I’m going to say this about every holder but I love the design of this as well. The pink glitter is absolutely gorgeous, it’s not an obnoxious hot pink and it’s not too cool toned. I use this one to store some of my eyeshadow singles.

Something else I absolutely love about Vanity Flair Customs is that they cater designs for so many personalities. My disney fanatic was super thrilled to get this castle holder.

The other side of the castle holder above has a Tinker Bell inspired decal.

Gold Solid Holder – Currently Unavailable
Last but not least is this gold glitter holder with no decal. The top of the holder is more transparent than the rest but other than that it’s great!

I’ve never come across holders like these before so they were definitely a treat and great decor pieces for my room. The only complaint I have is that the inside of the holders look a bit messy at the bottom since there is only paint around the sides, not the bottom. I can understand that painting the bottom is a waste of product since no one really looks there but the OCD side of me wishes it was painted more neatly where the paint stops. But hey, that’s just me!
You can check out all of their designs in their Etsy shop here. Customers in the US can order via the Etsy shop, however, if you are an international customer – email Vanity Flair Customs at the holders you are interested in to get a shipping quote.
